departments at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, making the hospital
the first and only teaching private hospital in the region. The

Post Graduate
Medical Education is essentially built around practical experience in patient
care and self-directed learning. In a well designed, formal programme, the
practical experience is planned to give residents graduated responsibilities

for their actions to a hierarchical team structure headed by a faculty member
who is an expert in his/her field. Acquisition of competence is carefully
structured and involves exposure to actual and simulated practice.
