Maisha Pavilion
The Maisha Pavilion has comfortably furnished private
rooms complete with adjustable bed, bedside cabinet, sofa bed,
telephone, television and refrigerator. The pavilion offers an
elegant, modern and appealing ambience for the patient in search
of high quality medical care.
For entertainment, Maisha Pavilion rooms have a DSTV connection
with Super Sport channels, BBC, CNN, MNET, Movie Magic, Cartoon
Network and Sony. Two satellite dishes with Arabic and Indian
channels are available. Local channels KTN, KBC, NationTV and
TV AFRICA, are also available.
Qualified Healthcare Professionals
The Hospital has more than 70 visiting consultants, of whom 60
are specialists in various clinical fields. The Doctors Plaza,
built in 1996, enhances accessibility to doctors and houses over
20 visiting consultants. In emergencies, there is easy access
to hospital-based specialists and visiting consultants.
International Standards and Working Practices
The Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa focuses on providing quality care
benchmarked and measured against international standards.
ISO 9001:2000
In 2004, the Hospital was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 (International
Standardization Organization) certification for conforming to
International Quality Assurance standards for its systems and
processes. This certification is awarded based on a sound organizational
structure, hospital management, resource management, patient related
processes and the Hospital’s internal quality audits and
continous improvement plans.
Clinical Governance
The Clinical Governance Programme works towards enhancing medical
care through credentialing, continuous medical education, professional
development programmes, mortality and morbidity reviews and clinical
audits.
Nursing Quality Assurance Programme
Nursing care procedures conforms to and is audited through the
Nursing Quality Assurance Programme (NQA) based on Qual Packs,
a United Kingdom based quality assurance programme. The NQA programme
and compliance procedures and protocols form the basis of highest
standards of nursing care.
Laboratory Quality Control
The Pathology department subscribes to the Randox International
Quality Assurance Scheme (RIQAS), United Kingdom for biweekly
quality controls in clinical chemistry and immunology. The Hospital
is registered with the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), United
States of America for quality assurance of its microbiology department,
in addition to strict daily internal quality control procedures
in all departments.
The Clinical Chemistry department also participates in a National
Quality Control programme managed by Chemlabs Ltd, Nairobi, local
agents for Human Diagnostics (Germany). Every three weeks, samples
are analysed and results compared with a German reference laboratory.
All Quality Control results are available at the laboratory for
inspection and perusal.
Professional Development
Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, radiographers
and other professionals undergo continuous professional development
sessions including weekly multidisciplinary education sessions,
seminars, workshops, participation in local, regional, international
and professional association conferences within specific fields.
