Information for Nurses and Midwives

The Midwifery School has been operating since 1970. An average of 25 students complete their course on an annual basis. More than 900 students have received their diploma from the Aga Khan Hospital for Women, Garden.

Nursing staff support consultants and RMOs round the clock to provide care and meet the patients’ needs. Health education sessions are organised regularly. Nursing staff attend workshops, seminars and trainings at AKUH and other hospitals/institutes.

Professional Development
Contineous medical education session are held fortnightly;
Besides inhouse services we do send our nursing staff at AKUH for concern workshop , seminars and trainings;
After completion of midvifery course a midwife can join the course of lady health visitor or diploma in nursing then BSCN , MSCN ABD PHD.
Midwifery Diploma Training Programme
The diploma consists of an 18-month course in which students are trained for the following:
Basic nursing care in Preliminary Training System (PTS) (initial 12 weeks)
Anatomy and physiology
First Aid
Microbiology
10-12 months of clinical obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology
   
After receiving a diploma from Sindh Nursing Examination Board (SNEB), a midwife can acquire a licence to practice midwifery, which includes care of mother before and after delivery. For further details regarding the midwifery diploma course please contact:
